Last night’s meeting was graced by the presence of Tableland’s Mayor Tom Gilmore. Tom had been invited to Top Table at the Millaa Millaa promotional day. The meeting had 14 in attendance with last meet’s guest Kev returning, David Knox brought his lovely wife Yoko and Mt Sheridan had 4 members attending.
Maria was Toastmaster of the Evening and did a splendid job. David introduced “appreciate” as the word of the evening and an excellent choice it was. There were 2 speeches by Club members. Roseanne gave a speech titled ‘What the heck!’ and Anne ‘Spilled the Beans” on her latest love affair.
Tom had admitted to some nerves about coming to a Toastmasters meeting. He gave us a tremendous tale about his experience leading up to being appointed a Minister in the Ahern government and demonstrated that he is one politician who has powerful speaking attributes like good rapport building skills, a commanding voice and an engaging presence. Tom mentioned that he admired the group’s response to the activity of Table Topics where members have to speak to a given topic for 1-2 minutes impromptu.
Thank you Tom for your interest and support!
Unfortunately due to demanding schedules the meeting next Monday has been cancelled. Look forward to catching up with you at the next meeting Mond 6 Sept.
